Current Data Collection
KnowPhone Lite collects minimal data to function:
On-Device (local only):
- • 4-Digit PIN: Used to unlock during overlay sessions and secure app access. This PIN is stored only on your device and never transmitted.
- • Detox Sessions & Plans: Stored locally for your child's progress.
- • Preferences: Such as interval timers and toggle state history.
Cloud (minimal):
- • Toggle State (true/false): Synced with Firebase Realtime Database to control the paired TV app.
- • Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymized usage data (e.g., feature engagement, crashes, session counts). This helps us improve performance, not track individuals.
Website:
- • Basic, anonymized analytics (e.g., page visits, with cookie consent).
- • Contact form messages (temporarily processed, not permanently stored).
Google Play Billing:
- • Subscription status (active/inactive) and purchase history for premium features.
- • Payment data is handled exclusively by Google Play. We never store or access payment details, card numbers, or financial information.
Future Data Collection (with explicit consent)
We may request:
- • Parent's name, email, or phone (for consultations or support)
- • Child's age (to customize detox plans)
- • Expanded app usage metrics (aggregated, anonymized)
We will always seek consent before collecting additional data.
2. Permissions We Request and Why
Overlay Permission ("Display over other apps")
Purpose: To display the lock screen overlay that helps control device usage.
Justification: Without this permission, the app cannot block access to other apps or enforce screen time reduction.
Exact Alarm Permission (Android 12+)
Purpose: To schedule accurate lock timers.
Justification: Without exact alarms, timers may be delayed by the system, reducing the effectiveness of detox sessions.
Battery Optimization Exemption
Purpose: To prevent Android from pausing or delaying detox timers.
Justification: If not exempted, timers may stop when the phone enters power-saving mode, breaking the detox flow.
Internet Access
Purpose: To sync toggle state with Firebase, validate subscriptions, and enable anonymized analytics.
Justification: Without internet access, toggle sync with the TV app, subscription checks, and basic analytics would not function.
3. How We Use Information
- • Enforce detox sessions and timers
- • Secure access via a local PIN
- • Synchronize toggle state with TV app
- • Validate subscriptions via Google Play Billing to unlock premium features
- • Collect anonymized usage insights through Firebase Analytics
- • Provide customer support or consultations (if you request)
We never sell, trade, or misuse your information.
4. How We Share Information
Currently: Minimal data (toggle state, analytics, subscription status) handled securely.
With Third Parties (limited):
- • Firebase (Google): Anonymized analytics & toggle sync
- • Google Play Billing: Subscription validation and purchase processing. Google handles all payment details; we only receive transaction status
- • Legal Requirements: If required by law (e.g., court order)
- • With Consent: If you explicitly allow (e.g., WhatsApp support)
We never share personal data with advertisers.
5. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
- • Designed for parents to manage children's screen time
- • We do not collect personal data directly from children under 13
- • Any child data (e.g., name, age) is provided voluntarily by parents
- • Parents can request deletion at any time (see Section 8)

Depending on jurisdiction, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, DPDP, COPPA, including:

- • PIN, detox sessions, preferences: Stored locally, user-controlled
- • Toggle states: Ephemeral, only for active session sync
- • Firebase Analytics: Retained in anonymized form per Google's policies
- • Billing records: Managed entirely by Google Play
- • Consultation data (future): Deleted within 1 year unless earlier requested
9. International Data Transfers
Firebase and Google Play services may store data globally. Transfers comply with:
